A Unique Gift for the Birdwatcher in your Life.

pen-with-instructionsThe BirdMIKE Pack is for the Bird Lover - novice or professional - who will have hours of fun with this new sound recording technology. Most Microphones save sounds into computers. BirdMIKE saves them onto paper! Yes, you record the bird and save the recording in any of the BirdMIKE paper resources such as the 80 page British Bird Diary, the 105 page Bird Guide, the sticky labels, fridge magnets, posters and a growing range of applications.

This pack has BirdMIKE, which has a recording capacity of over 130 hours. It also has 270 British Birds' Calls and Songs, professionally recorded by Europe's leading bird sound expert, Jean Rochet. Britain's birding expert Geoff Sample has kindly provided advice on what to listen out to improve your sound recognition skills.
There are over 4 hours of sound recordings in BirdMIKE and yet there is over 125 hours for your recordings. Save your recordings in the British Birds Diary, or on any of the 54 stickers of "Well-known British Birds" that is in the pack. You can also increase your recognition skills on Set 1 of Bird Quizzes which come with  the pack.
We guarantee that if you are a novice you will more than double your ability to recognise!  And if you are professional, then you can build up huge logbook of birdsounds.

BirdMIKE has some technical extras. There is a USB cable to backup your recordings onto computer and a Directional Microphone to record on those occasions when the bird is on a treetop. Also included is a set of over 380 sticky labels to record your voice and stick onto your family photographs or message boards! (What's more, you can record over any soundspot as often as you like!)

The technology is simple (and patented). And like many uncomplicated things, it is very effective. BirdMIKE is a sound recorder with a connector. Printed on the sticky labels or books are special micro codes, sometimes so small that you can barely see the dots. However BirdMIKE can, and when contact is made, the appropriate mp3 or wav sound file is triggered, and you hear what you want.

So you learn and have fun learning through a process of "touch and respond", a natural learning style all of us have use since childhood. We have control, we touch any spot we like and learn in a non-textual way. Educationalists call this "kinesthetic learning"  for many of us who do not like reading vast chunks of text.

The technology is used in Schools and by the RNIB. In fact it has already won awards. In November, Penfriend (which is RNIB's brand name for BirdMIKE) won the 2009 enABLE award for the  "electrical product that changed lives". Penfriend is used for labelling and it is worth watching a video of how the blind cope with labelling using PENfriend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePE0-U73Ajc.
RecorderPEN  is the education version of BirdMIKE. It is a finalist in the prestigious BETT 2010 "Digital Devices in Education Award". Result will be announced at Olympia on 12 January 2010. Fingers crossed!

The BirdMIKE pack is a magical resource where simple but effective technology meets the beauty of print. Imagine the paper to be a computer screen but much better. You can fold it, roll it, put it into your pocket, file it and take it anywhere with you.You can enjoy the beauty of high quality artwork by Mike Longman who was the RSPB professional bird artist . You can record sound onto sticky labels, stick them on posters, photographs, drawings or even message boards....and extract sound from paper. In fact tests have shown that retrieving  what you want with BirdMIKE is much quicker than scrolling down an mp3 player, fiddling with little buttons.

So join the growing number of BirdMIKE members. Record your own bird sounds and build up an audio logbook of your birding experiences. To find out more, click on the  the Products tab or watch teh various videos
